Rita was born on June 17, 1949 in Grand Rapids to Oscar Carl and Sarah Mabel (Anderson) Lindgren. Rita was one quarter Cherokee. She married Lawrence Alfred Geary on December 24, 1974 in Grand Rapids. Rita was very spiritual. She enjoyed doing the Lord’s work and she thanked Jesus for dying on the cross for her. She enjoyed singing songs to the Lord and reading his word, going to church, and working for Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

Rita had many fond memories of doing different tasks with her Dad, Oscar Lindgren, when she was growing up, which included cutting and hauling poplar when she was 19, ice fishing and snowmobiling and hauling in water from the pump. Rita loved her Dad very much. She helped her mother, who was a homemaker, churn butter, make homemade ice cream, work in the garden and helped with the dishes. She loved her mother, Sarah, very much. When she was 15 and 16 she used to stay with her Grandma Ivy Miller in Grand Rapids for extended visits.

Rita’s dad, Oscar, served in the Army during WWII. He also did the digging at the Warba Cemetery before they got their new machine. In 1960 Rita helped her Dad peel poplar when she was eleven, getting 9 cents a stick. He always told her to be careful not to trip over the stumps or fallen trees. Rita would like to thank the Grand Rapids Vets for going to her Dad’s grave site.

Rita had a varied career that spanned over 53 years and was knowledgeable in many subjects. She worked for the Star Tribune in Minneapolis for 3 years, at Sammy’s Pizza as a dishwasher, and for the city of Hibbing picking up trash on the sidewalks which she really enjoyed because she loved working outside in the great outdoors. She also worked at the Androy in the 70’s and the Star Motel, working both top and bottom levels, as a cleaning lady. Rita retired in 2012. Even at age 69 she missed working. She sang with the Grand Rapids Cowboys at the Lee Center.

Rita loved people. She would smile when she said her nickname “Rita, Rita, Meter Maid” was from the Beatles song.

Rita especially enjoyed spending time with her sisters, Linda and Brenda, and her cousin Matt and the Anderson family.

Rita wanted to thank Matt Anderson and the Lundeen families, Range Funeral Home, and her cousins Brett Anderson and Sheri Lundeen (she always gave Rita hugs). Thank you also to Sharon and Kermit Schleicher for all you did and for being my friend and caregiver. They are nice Christian people. She would also like to thank everyone at the Hibbing Christian Alliance Church for all their assistance and Shubat Transportation Dial-A-Ride for all their help over the years. She also wanted to thank Jesus for letting her work with him.

Rita wanted everyone to know that she will miss them.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Sarah; her son, Raymond in 1986; her husband, Lawrence Geary in 1988; and her sister, Brenda in 2015.

Survivors include:
