Howard H. Kuopus, 85, of Silver Springs, FL, passed away unexpectedly at West Marion Community Hospital in Ocala, FL on Sunday, February 24, 2019. Per his request, no services were held. A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 4:00 pm at the Gregorich residence located at 3189 Gavin Rd, Eveleth, MN A private family burial of his cremains will be in the Makinen Cemetery. He was born on April 12, 1933 to Henry and Milga (Byykkonen) Kuopus in Elo, MI. He lived and attended school in Elo until having to quit and help take care of the farm. Howard served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1954 and was honorably discharged. On May 1, 1954, he was united in marriage to Ellen Jane Parkkonen in Makinen. Howard worked for the Forestry Department, did underground mining, drove truck for Ulland Brothers and Kirscher Transport. He retired from Eveleth Taconite Company as an auto mechanic. Following retirement, Howard and Ellen moved to Florida. They had been married for 54 years before her passing in 2009. On June 1, 2014, he married Marlene A. Duncan in Silver Springs, FL.

Howard loved spending time in his wood shop making items to give to family, friends, and even people he never knew. Most recent, he made over 3500 beautiful wooden crosses that have been given throughout the United States and even sent to other countries. He passed them out with the comfort and love of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

He had been a long-time member of Forest Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene Duncan of Silver Springs, FL; children, Glen (Maritza) Kuopus of Prosper, TX, Tammy Kluck of Hibbing, MN, and Terri (Robert J.) Gregorich of Makinen, MN; grandchildren, Paula (Brett) Lewis, Katelyn Kuopus, Dustin Giersdorf, Nathaniel Giersdorf, Stefan (Karlie) Giersdorf, and Cameron Gregorich; great grandchildren; Landry Lewis and Cecelia Giersdorf; siblings, Ruth Nichols, Ray (Donna) Kuopus, Elroy (Joyce) Kuopus, and Leona (Al) McColm; sister-in-law, Shirley (Mike) Adams; and brother-in-law, Dennis (Karen) Aust.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ellen Jane; grandson, Philip Gregorich in 1989; brothers, Ben, Wally, Ilmarr, and Wilbert; sisters, Hilma, Hilda, Amanda, Elaine, and Alma; brothers-in-law, Tauno, Roy, Wayne, Whitey, Emil, and Glenn; and sister-in-law, Alma

    I had many interactions with Howard in his Makinen years. Always pleasant and funny we worked well together on several fire department projects. Go easy after along productive life
