James E. Santa, 88, of Britt, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Essentia Health Virginia Care Center. A memorial mass will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 11:00 am with visitation one-hour prior. Fr. Brandon Moravitz will officiate. James Elmer Santa was born December 12, 1930 in Parkville to Elmer and Olga (Hanson) Santa. He was graduate of Mountain Iron High School. Following high school, he attended San Jose City College, Sparling School of Deep-Sea Diving in CA., and also took some home courses in Electronics. On May 7, 1949, James was united in marriage to Florence Secola. James held various jobs. He was a tire repairman, delivery truck driver, welder/mechanic in Greenland, electronic technician for Polaris, a missile programmer at Lockheed Missile and Space Division in CA., and was a deep-sea diver. He retired after 30 years as a radio engineer, communication planner, supervisor, and civil defense duties from St. Louis County.
James enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping, amateur photography, deep-sea diving, and flying. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
James was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, Eveleth-Virginia Flying Club, where he was a pilot, president, and a secretary, Employee Association of St. Louis County, and the Elks of Virginia.
James was known for his integrity, hard work, SISU personality, and his dedication to family and work.
He is survived by his daughters, Jeanne Holmes of Britt, Jane Hess of OH; grandchildren, Michael (Kristin) Holmes, Gina (Terry) Johnson, Nicole (Tim) Harry, Jamie (Douglas) Brown, Abby (Sid) Jones, and Hannah Hess; great grandchildren, Chanelle and Joseph Holmes, Xavier and Avalon Johnson, London and Aspen Brown, and Jameson and Jordin Jones; sister-in-law, Carol Sheets; brother-in-law, Anthony (Camille) Secola; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Florence; sister, Olive Manners; mother and father-in-law, Ben and Cora; and sons-in-law, Ernest Holmes and Loren Hess.
