Glenn “Taz” Leslie Curry, 67, of Mt. Iron, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 13, 2022. He was born in Hobart, Tasmania (Australia) on Sept. 11, 1954 to Leslie and Margaret (Greatbatch) Curry.

He grew up in Hobart and attended local schools where he frequently was known for cutting class to go surfing with friends. After completing his education, he went on to work for mines in New Guinea, Western Australia and other various mines which afforded him the opportunity to travel throughout the world. This led him to the United States, eventually settling in the Twin Cities, where he met the love of his life.

He married Shirley (Otterson) and had 33 wonderful years together. He was a dedicated and well-respected Machinist at US Steel, Minntac working in Central Shops, nearing retirement just shy of 30 years of employment.

His Australian accent was mesmerizing and attracted a variety of friends all over the world. He was a devoted family man with many interests. He loved the water and had a passion for fishing. He was also known to enjoy his favorite beverage with friends! Few might know that “Taz” enjoyed listening to opera, doing crossword puzzles, reading, discussing history with others and so much more.

He is survived by his mother: Margaret “Peg” of Hobart,Tasmania; wife: Shirley; daughter: Morgan Gerlach and her children: Cheyenne and Andrew of Las Vegas, NV; son: Ben Curry of Mpls. MN; brothers: Christopher (Jenny) daughter: Ellen; Paul (Bev) daughters: Heather and Rose all of Hobart, Tasmania; brother-in-law: Lonnie (Cynthia) Otterson; children: Lilly and Samuel of Rochester, MN; sisters-in-law: Kristie Holcomb of Wausau, WI and her children: Alissa of Seward, AK and Trevor of Mpls. MN; Patricia (Jerry) Karschnik.

He will also be remembered by his many friends, family and colleagues, especially Steve Johnson, Gary Flaim and Kevin Squillace.

He was preceded in death by his father: Leslie Curry; in-laws: Dovain and Lana Otterson; nephew: Sam Plunkett; niece: Rachael Rodriguez; and grandparents.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 27, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 8590 Enterprise Drive South, Mt. Iron. Pastor Tim Berdahl will officiate. A gathering time will be held one hour prior. A luncheon will immediately follow.

His final resting place will be in Hobart, Tasmania (Australia).
