Ernest E. Eddy

Ernest Everett Eddy of Virginia, MN, formally from Cusson, MN passed away peacefully at the Essentia Hospital in Virginia on May 9th, 2022, with his significant other, Darlene, at his side.
Ernie, 85, was born in Cook, MN on January 17th, 1937 to Everett and Erna Eddy. Ernie was the eldest of six children and they lived on the family farm in Greaney, MN. Ernie worked hard his whole life, early on it was farming, logging & construction with his father. He then attended Agricultural school in Grand Rapids, earning his certificate. He continued to work with his father, and also worked for various construction companies in the area.
Ernie was married for over 25 years to Arlene Scofield Eddy, and raised 6 children in Cusson, MN. Ernie’s hobbies included collecting guns, coins, and antiques. Deer and partridge hunting were also family favorite pastimes. Flying with the local club in Orr and riding motorcycles were two more hobbies that he enjoyed immensely.
The kids fondly remember his sour-dough pancakes and goulash. Cribbage and smear tournaments were also a pastime in the Eddy household. The boys especially remember having to cut firewood on Sundays and missing the Vikings games. Ernie was known to say “they will win or lose whether you watch them or not”
Boating, camping and fishing were also fun activities that they enjoyed at various local lakes. Photography and filming were lifelong loves of Ernie’s.
In his later years, Darlene and Ernie enjoyed road trips to visit friends and relatives. Watching the grandchildren’s various sporting events, and school activities also filled their days.
Ernie is survived by his significant other, Darlene Johnson of Virginia; children: Leroy (Julie) Eddy of Virginia, MN, Teresa (Curt) Eddy of Jamaica, Lori (Albert) Schuster of Greaney, MN, Troy (Mary Ann) Eddy of Fort Washington, MD, Geno (Deanna) Eddy of Grand Rapids, MN, and Dean (Brenda) Eddy of Vail, AZ; grandchildren: Amber, Nicholas, Kimberly, Tabitha, Travis, Tinara, April, Andy, Katherine, Becca, and Mila; great grandchildren: Isaiah, Gena, Jacey, Sage, Dakota, Jameson, Colter, Caroline, Teagan, and Gus.
A funeral mass will be said at 11 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2022 in the Holy Spirit Church in Virginia. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the mass. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
