David Peter “Vuds” Hanson, 65, of Nashwauk passed away Monday, June 24, 2019 at Grand Itasca Hospital in Grand Rapids.

David was born January 13, 1954 in Hibbing to Clement and Alva (Larson) Hanson. He attended Nashwauk schools. David was a very talented musician, and worked as a professional drummer in numerous bands. Many people depended on David and his father Clem to repair, refinish, redo just about anything. They were a team for many years until his Dad’s passing. David continued to be self-employed as Nashwauk’s handy man for many years to follow. Many hours were spent helping Mary Lynn with the opening, managing and maintaining of the “Open Hands Open Heart Food Shelf” which existed for 11 years.

David was passionate about music and often denoted it with love. His particular fondness for animals, children, and the elderly won him friends from all paths of life. He was a nature enthusiast and often enjoyed rainbows and star gazing. Comedy movies were his favorite past time, as well as writing poems and children’s stories.

David’s sparkling blue eyes and magnetic smile, along with all his unique gifts and interests, made him stand out in a crowd. His free spirited choices in how he lived life came along with plenty of laughter and wit. Blessed with a heart of gold, he was such a good, kind, wise and happy man who gave so much to so many. A famous quote that would describe David says that in order to be irreplaceable one must always be different. He left many wonderful and unique memories for family and friends. David is a reminder to us all to be grateful, live in the present, take chances, deliberate long and act swiftly, live each day like it’s your last, and to find joy and be happy.
