SERVING VIRGINIA AND HIBBING AREAS FOR OVER 100 YEARS

Carolyn Marie Holkko

06-29-1960 - 11-29-2018

A much-loved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Carolyn “Happy” Holkko, 58, of Britt, died peacefully with her loving husband and sister by her side on Thursday, November 29th, 2018, at Essentia Health in Duluth, MN after suffering a cardiac event. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00am at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Virginia, MN with visitation starting at 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. Arrangements are with Range Funeral Home in Virginia. To sign the online guest book or to send condolences, please visit www.rangefuneralhomes.com.

Happy was born June 29, 1960 in Virginia to Veikko and Judie (Benedix) Kivela. She was a 1978 graduate of Virginia High School and later obtained her Nursing Degree through Hibbing Community College. Happy dedicated over thirty years to serving the community through nursing in various roles; not limited to hospice, home care, pediatrics, med/surg, and the emergency room. She finished her nursing career at Fairview in Hibbing, MN.

Happy enjoyed going for side-by-side rides and trips in the motorhome with the love of her life of almost 40 years, Gordon Holkko. Together, they designed and built their home in Britt that they would later raise their three children in and make countless memories as a family. More than anything, Happy loved being a Grandma. Between her three children, she had six grandchildren with one more on the way. She was also “Crazy Grams” to her niece’s twin sons.

Happy is survived by her loving husband, Gordon Holkko; children Matthew Holkko, Nathan (Jen) Holkko, & Abigail (Alex Hejda) Holkko; grandchildren Alexander, Fynley, AvaBella, Isaac, Barret, Nory, & Baby Hejda due in February; sisters Kim Pettinelli, Jolene Kivela, Shelly Nissila and brother-in-law, Gordy Imberg; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her Grandparents Veikko Sr. & Allie Kivela and Leslie & Ragna Benedix; parents Veikko Jr. & Judie Kivela; and Sister, Diane.

So very for your loss of Carolyn. I went to nursing school with her at HCC back in 1991 and we worked together at the Hibbing hospital. She was an awesome nurse . I remember her as hard working, kind, and fun to work with. She would always talk about her family and adored her grandchildren. Always showing us pictures of them. She was very proud. Heaven gained an Angel . May you find comfort and strength in the days ahead. She will be missed by many. Rest In Peace.🙏🏻🌷

My Mother, Gladys Tuuri, and I are so sorry for the loss of your wife, Gordie. We planned to go to her funeral, however, Gladie was not well enough to go when I arrived to pick her up to go to Virginia.
Just want you to know how sorry we are.
