Marietta Groshel

Marietta Groshel, 82, of Britt, MN; beloved wife, mother, nannie, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on March 14th, 2024 with her husband Gary by her side.

Marietta was born to Fred and Sophie (Hydukovich) Turk in Hibbing, MN. She grew up in Brooklyn and graduated from Hibbing High School in 1959, the same year as Bob Dylan. She knew him from their shared drama class, back then Marietta wanted to be an actor.

After high school Marietta went on to Secretarial School. She then moved to California to be married and start her family; she later moved back to Northern Minnesota to be near family.

Marietta worked hard all her life, she loved to tell a good story and making people laugh was one of her best attributes! We will all miss her love and wisdom that she so generously shared.

On March 24th Marietta and Gary were married and began many years of joy. They filled their time traveling, bargain hunting, and later would go on to take in their grandson Cole and raise him as their own.

Marietta is survived by her husband Gary; children Carla Howard Salzer, Brenda (Alan) LaBarge, Kelly (Carrie Luoma) Howard; daughter-in-law Lisa (Eric) Howard; and Gary’s children Gary (Karla) Groshel, and Tara Groshel-Bonazza; Grandchildren: Halli, Jason, Gabe, Griffin, Allison, Bailee, Sadie, Olivia, Cole, Sierra, Trevor, Sophie, Collin, Carson, Stormie, Dominic, Korey, Gavin; 30 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Marietta is also survived by her sisters Phyllis (Ed) Monacelli, Joan (John) Newbolt; and brother Tim (Kay) Turk.

Preceded in death by her children Dana Howard, Eric Howard; and her siblings: Terry Turk, Fred Turk, Sharyn Kasola, Dana Petron; and Marietta’s parents Fred and Sophie.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Grace and Truth Bible Church. Address: 601 12th St. North Virginia, MN 55792. Visitation will be from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. followed by the service.
