Lawrence C Salo

Lawrence C. Salo, lifelong resident of Virginia, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born on December 24, 1953 to Eugene and Dorothy (Anderson) Salo in Virginia, Minnesota.

Larry graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1972. He then went on to attend Gustavus Adolphus College, graduating in 1976 with a Degree in Teaching. Larry worked as a locomotive mechanic for Minntac; and then as a lab technician for Hibbing Taconite. Larry also worked as a Secondary Science Teacher in Mt. Iron, MN; and was a long time volunteer with the Giants Ridge Ski Patrol.

Larry loved being outdoors. His favorite vacation destination was the Boundary Waters. His happy place was the family cabin on Lake Leander. When he was not spending time at the cabin, he loved to fill his hours with skiing, golfing, fishing, hunting, playing tennis, and pickleball. Larry appreciated all the friends he made because of his many interests.

Larry was a musician at heart. His faith guided him, and provided him strength throughout his entire life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mark; and nephew, Adam.

He is survived by wife, Irene Makirinne Salo; children, Tiina Salo of Saint Paul, and Michael (Samantha Howard) Salo of Golden Valley; brother, Nels (Beth) Salo of Waconia; three nephews; along with numerous cousins, extended family, and loving friends.

Larry's family would like to thank the team at East Range Hospice for the care they provided him in his last days.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Hope Community Presbyterian Church with the visitation starting at 10 A.M. and going until the 11 A.M. Service. If you are able to attend Larry's Service, please feel free to wear white and blue to honor the family's Finnish Heritage; or wear bright colors to celebrate Larry's life.
