She was born October 3, 1918 to Mike and Sanna Saari in Zim, MN. Selma graduated from Cherry High School. She excelled in school and she especially enjoyed acting in plays, reading, and writing. The love carried into her adult life where she spent her spare time writing short stores and poetry. Her poems were put into a book for everyone to enjoy.

Selma married William Leino on March 16, 1938. They lived in Wolf and raised five children: Faye (Jim) Carpenter, Stanley (Shelia) Leino, Joyce (Archie) Lake, Roger Leino, and Rhonda Leino. Selma was a Senior Companion, a member of Wolf Homemakers for many years, and a longtime member of the Faith United Lutheran Church.

Selma was a wonderful homemaker. She sewed all her children's clothing, was a wonderful cook, and her delicious biscuit was enjoyed by everyone! She lived a healthy life and walked 3 to 4 miles daily, rain or shine, with dog, Donald by her side.

Left to mourn Selma are her children and family, which includes 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Selma was preceded in death by her husband, William; her parents; and 6 siblings
