Darrell “D” Jay Kinney

December 27, 1956 - May 14, 2018

Darrell “D” Jay Kinney, 61, passed away Monday, May 14, 2018 at his home in Hibbing. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Wesley United Methodist Church (303 East 23rd Street) in Hibbing at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00. Rev. Andrew Petter will officiate.  Luncheon will be served. Arrangements are with Range Funeral Home in Hibbing.

He was born Darrell Jay but preferred to be called “D”. Born on Dec 27, 1957 to Howard and Shirley Kinney, D was the youngest of their children. In 1988, he married Jean Bostyancic of Hibbing. They resided in Duluth, raising their two boys, Brian and Jake. D worked as a laborer in the shipyards of Duluth and Superior for over 30 years until his recent retirement. He lived in Hibbing with his friend and companion, Mariann Silvestrini Forsman.

D was an avid motorcyclist and a talented mechanic. He loved riding.. it was his passion. He was also a member of the IRMC Club for many years.

D is preceded in death by his wife, Jean Kinney; his grandparents, Howard Sr. and Arilla May Kinney; grandparents, Barbara Austin Vehovic and Grant Waits; brothers, James and Bruce Kinney; and step mom, Dorothy Kinney.

D is loved and survived by his Bff, Mariann Silvestrini; beloved dog, Kilo; his sons, Brian and Jake Kinney; parents, Howard Kinney Jr and Shirley Waits Kinney, brother, Gary Kinney; sisters, Sharon Kinney Stanoway and Gail Kinney Daniels; Aunt B… Urilda Baumchen (Henry), and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
