Lorraine Virginia (Koski) Niskala

Lorraine Virginia Niskala, age 89, of Eveleth and formerly of Makinen, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at the Waterview Woods in Eveleth, Minnesota.

She was born on October 31, 1934 to Wayne and Lempi (Laine) Koski in Hibbing, Minnesota. She grew up in the Stevenson area. Her family moved to Makinen in the early 1940s. Lorraine attended the Hibbing area schools early on, and graduated from the Cotton High School in 1951. Lorraine married Robert "Bob" Niskala in 1952. They had a son named Allen Robert Niskala in 1955. Lorraine and Bob made their home in Makinen on beautiful Long Lake.

Lorraine was a sweet and caring wife, mother, aunt, and friend. She worked as a homemaker. She knitted and crocheted beautifully. Family and close friends never went without warm sweaters, mittens, socks, or slippers. Working alongside her husband, Bob who was a forester; keeping books, cutting boughs, and painting small Christmas trees. Family and friends always had beautiful trees at Christmas time. Lorraine and Bob owned a liquor store in Hibbing. Afterwards, she worked for the US Postal Service for many years; retiring as Makinen Postmaster. She belonged to the Area Ladies, Red Hat Society. She also volunteered as an Election Poll Worker for many years.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Lempi (Laine) Koski; husband, Bob Niskala; son, Allen Niskala; and sister, Eleanor Jarvi.

Lorraine is survived by niece, Karen Miller; great nieces: Kristin (Troy) Tuhkanen, and Dawn (Gabe) Aho; great-great nieces and nephews: Alixandra Olin, Lindsay Olin, Axel Aho, Annika Aho, and Boden Boyer.

She is known to us all as Aunty "LoLo". She will be missed.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at the Range Funeral Home in Virginia at 1:00 P.M. with the visitation being held one hour prior. Pastor Bradley Felix will be officiating. There will be a luncheon with coffee, punch, and sweets held after the service at the Range Funeral Home Fellowship Hall. All are welcome to join.
