Daphne Koski, age 86, of rural Virginia, Minn. went on to a new beginning with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on April 6, 2024. After three major surgeries within a year, she said, "I am tired, and I am ready to go to be with Jesus." Her friends, family, and staff at assisted living and Caring Edge ministered to her in her final days at her residence at Edgewood Vista of Virginia.
She was born on October 23, 1937 at home in rural Virginia, Minn. Daphne was the daughter of Alfred and Violande (Vi Mattson) Koski. She was a graduate of Embarrass High School, and received her Elementary Education Teaching Degree from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. She taught in Hibbing and Virginia, Minn. and also in Vancouver, Washington.
Daphne taught Bible lessons to children about God's love through American Sunday School Union (now, In Faith Ministries) vacation Bible school, Sunday school, and Camp Sa Ke Sa (He Saves, He Keeps, He Satisfies). She attended and also led adult Bible studies for many years. While caring for her father, and later her mother, she taught piano lessons to area students at her home. She helped at Range Respite in Virginia for temporary care and relief for home caregivers. Until her health limited her traveling, she was an active member at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Virginia.
Gardening, flowers, and friends were a great joy for Daphne. She took opportunities to reach out to be a friend, or give a word of encouragement. She said, "People don't care about how much you know until they know how much you care." She wanted people to know that Jesus died to pay for their sins, and offers forgiveness to all who accept this as His gift to them.
Her brother, Edsel, will miss her presence. They shared life at the family homestead until moving to the recent shared companion apartment at Edgewood Vista. She was loved, and is survived by her brother, Edsel Koski; sister, Marcelyn (Robert) Wiinanen; nieces: Wendy Wiinanen, Angela (Joseph) Mullen, and Debra (Brian) Dancer; nephew, Eric (Jennifer) Wiinanen; and numerous cousins.
Daphne was preceded in death by her father and mother; brother, Alben Koski; and infant nephew, Philip Wiinanen.
There will be a Graveside Service and Interment at the Sandy Township Cemetery, Hwy 68, on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 1 P.M.
